Expert in Hub & Pulse

Expert integrates directly into your Hub and Pulse surfaces, giving viewers instant AI-powered Q&A without leaving your content experience.

Expert in Hub

Embedded Q&A in your academy

When Expert is enabled, your Hub displays a Q&A interface where viewers can type questions and receive answers drawn from your published bite library. The experience is seamless — viewers stay within the Hub, and answers link directly to relevant bites with timestamps.

Hub Expert is ideal for knowledge bases, onboarding academies, and help centers. Viewers who can’t find what they need by browsing can simply ask, and Expert points them to the right content instantly.

Expert in Pulse

Q&A inside your product

Expert can appear as a tab or panel within the Pulse widget. Users browsing your “What’s New” feed can switch to the Q&A panel to ask questions about any feature or workflow you’ve covered in your bites.

Pulse Expert keeps users inside your application. Instead of navigating to a help site or filing a support ticket, they get answers in context — right where they’re working.

Implicit API keys

When you enable Expert in a Hub or Pulse widget, DemoBites automatically generates and manages an API key behind the scenes. You don’t need to create, copy, or configure any keys manually.

Auto-generated

Keys are created when Expert is enabled on a Hub or Pulse feed. They’re scoped to that specific surface and workspace.

Fully managed

DemoBites handles rotation and security. You never see or handle these keys directly — they’re embedded in the widget at publish time.

Need your own API key? If you want to call Expert from external tools like Zendesk, Intercom, or ChatGPT, you need an explicit API key. These are available on the Scale plan.

Configuration options

Expert behavior can be customized from the dashboard. These settings apply to both Hub and Pulse surfaces.

System prompt

Define Expert's persona and tone. For example: "You are a friendly product specialist for Acme Corp. Answer questions about our project management tool." This guides how Expert frames its answers.

Response language

Set the language Expert responds in. Expert searches content in the configured language and generates answers in that language. Defaults to English.

Max results

Control how many source bites Expert includes in each answer. The default is 5, but you can lower it for more focused responses or raise it for broader coverage.

Fallback message

Customize the message shown when Expert can't find a confident answer. You can also configure a fallback URL to direct viewers to your support team or documentation.

Source display modes

When Expert returns an answer, it includes references to the source bites. You can control how these sources are presented to viewers.

Cards

Default

Source bites are displayed as visual cards with a thumbnail poster image, the bite title, and a direct link. This is the richest presentation and works well when visual context matters.

Text links

Minimal

Sources appear as simple text links with the bite title. Compact and unobtrusive — ideal when you want the AI answer to be the primary focus.

Thumbnails

Visual

A row of thumbnail images linking to each source bite. Good for visual products where a poster frame conveys meaning at a glance.

Fallback behavior

When Expert can’t find a confident answer, it returns a fallback response instead of guessing. You can customize this behavior:

  • Custom fallback message — replace the default "I couldn't find an answer" with your own text.
  • Fallback URL — link to your support page, knowledge base, or contact form so viewers have a next step.
  • Fallback URL label — customize the link text (e.g., "Contact support" or "Browse our help center").

Expert only surfaces answers when it finds a confident match. It uses a confidence scoring system — high, low, or none — and suppresses results that would be misleading rather than helpful.

30-bite threshold

Expert will not render for viewers in Hub or Pulse until your workspace has at least 30 published bites. Below that threshold, the Q&A interface is hidden entirely — viewers never see a broken or unreliable experience.

What this means

  • Expert configuration and Preview work on all plans, even below the threshold.
  • The Hub and Pulse Q&A interfaces are hidden from viewers until 30+ bites are published.
  • Once you cross the threshold, Expert becomes visible automatically — no manual toggle.
  • Draft and unpublished bites do not count toward the 30-bite minimum.
